Jonna Katajamäki is a Researcher and University Teacher at the University of Lapland's Faculty of Art and Design. She holds a doctoral researcher role within the Discipline-specific doctoral programme. Her work focuses on visual arts, cultural heritage, and interdisciplinary research in Arctic contexts. She has been actively involved in multiple funded projects since 2012, collaborating with institutions like the University of Helsinki, Nordic cultural foundations, and governmental bodies.
Her research interests include Arctic art education, cultural preservation, and the intersection of art with regional identity. Notable projects include the LUMA-Centre Lapland initiative (2014–2025) and the Virtual Pathways project (2021–2023). She has co-edited several publications exploring Northern Finnish artists and cultural heritage, such as Teuvo Tuomivaara: Huuto metsästä (2024) and Tarinoita ja taidetta (2022).
Her contributions span 15 research outputs from 2016 to 2024, emphasizing collaborative projects and educational programs. Key collaborations include work on Indigenous storytelling and Arctic cultural preservation. She has also contributed to the development of transnational master's programs like the Arctic Art and Design initiative (2015–2018).
