Michael Jones is a Professor Emeritus at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he held the position of Professor in the Department of Geography from 1985 to 2015. He previously served as Head of Department (1990-92 and 1978-81) and held part-time roles such as Academic Adviser at the Centre for Environment and Development (1993-96). His research focuses on cultural geography, landscape change, and legal geography, with regional expertise in Scandinavia, Finland, and the Nordic islands of Orkney and Shetland.

- Key Positions: Visiting Research Professor at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (Denmark, 1996-97), Research Fellow at the Agricultural University of Norway (1973-75), and part-time lecturer at institutions in the UK and Finland.
