Jonathon Schramm is a Professor & Chair in the Biology & Sustainability department at Goshen College, where he also directs the Institute for Ecological Regeneration (IER). His work integrates teaching and research at the Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, focusing on ecological restoration, invasive species dynamics, and environmental education. He coordinates the interdisciplinary Sustainability Core and contributes to curriculum development for the Master’s in Environmental Education program.
- Education: B.S. Biology & B.A. German from Calvin College (2001); Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University (2008)
His research explores plant community responses to agricultural landscapes, carbon-transforming processes in education, and sustainability pedagogy. Publications highlight empirical studies on invasive grass species (Microstegium vimineum) and innovations in science education frameworks. He joined Goshen College in 2012, combining fieldwork with academic leadership.
Recent scholarly output reveals a focus on ecological modeling (2017-2010), science education reform (2017, 2011), and sustainability curriculum design (2013-2014). These works intersect with broader themes in biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services, and interdisciplinary learning.
