Dr. Jonathon Ditlev is a Scientist at the Molecular Medicine Program of the SickKids Research Institute and a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto since 2019. His research bridges biophysics, cell biology, and signal transduction through the study of phase-separated biomolecular condensates.
- B.S. in Biology, Calvin College (2003)
- Ph.D., University of Connecticut Health Center (2012)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, UT Southwestern Medical Center (2012–2019)
Research Focus: Dr. Ditlev investigates how phase-separated biomolecular condensates regulate signal transduction in neurons and immune cells. His work spans phase separation mechanics, actin polymerization dynamics, membrane receptor organization, and biophysical modeling of cellular systems.
Publication Trends: His recent studies highlight phase separation as a regulator of T cell signaling, actin cluster stoichiometry, and compositional control of condensates, with methodologies ranging from biophysical analysis to in vivo modeling.
- Scientific Awards:
- NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (2014–2017)
Advising & Lab Leadership: Dr. Ditlev mentors graduate and undergraduate students in his lab, focusing on biomolecular condensates, neuronal signaling, and immunological phase separation. His lab includes current graduate students (Gaddy Rakhaminov, Zeynep Baltaci, Yimei Cindy Wan, Cathy Zhang), undergraduates (Zeenal Patel, David Yan), and alumni (Claire MacMurray, Ali Bin Munim, David Sapp, Samuel Ben Sofia).
