Jonathan Wolpaw

Jonathan Wolpaw is a Research Professor at the University at Albany, with joint appointments in Biomedical Sciences and Electrical & Computer Engineering. He directs research at the National Center for Adaptive Neurotechnologies, Wadsworth Center.

His work develops operant conditioning models for spinal reflexes like the H-reflex, investigating spinal cord plasticity underlying behavioral changes. This research provides therapeutic approaches for spasticity and abnormal reflex function.

He pioneers brain-computer interface (BCI) technology to restore communication for people paralyzed by ALS, strokes, or neuromuscular disorders. His team enables users to control computers via brain waves, with ongoing home implementation trials.
