Jonathan Winfield

Jonathan Winfield is a Researcher at the University of the West of England, affiliated with the Department of Engineering, Design and Mathematics. He completed a PhD in Environmental Engineering at UWE and a BSc (Hons) in Zoology at the University of Bristol, and holds the Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His current role as Director of Learning and Teaching and Associate Head of Department involves overseeing degree programmes such as BSc Robotics, BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and the forthcoming MEng Mechatronics (starting September 2023).

Research Interests:
The focus of his research lies in Microbial Fuel Cells, a renewable energy technology that utilizes bacterial metabolism to treat wastewater while generating electricity. His work intersects with broader areas including Environmental Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Sustainability, Engineering Management, and Mechatronics.
