Prof. Jonathan P. Sleeman is a Professor in the Department of Microvascular Biology and Pathobiology at the Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University. His research focuses on understanding metastasis mechanisms in breast cancer and melanoma, with particular emphasis on tumor-induced lymphangiogenesis, extracellular matrix (hyaluronan) dynamics, and the role of inflammatory cells like neutrophils and macrophages in lung metastatic niches. His lab investigates how pro-inflammatory signals regulate metastatic spread and dormancy, including senescence-promoted metastasis. Collaborations within MI3 explore pulmonary macrophage-neutrophil interactions in metastasis. Key publications include studies on VEGFR-3 in megakaryopoiesis, serum amyloid A-induced metastasis, and macrophage-driven lymphangiogenesis post-chemotherapy. He leads the Sleeman Lab, which develops novel anti-cancer therapies targeting metastasis.
