Jonathan Rubin serves as the Director of the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center and holds the rank of Professor of Economics at the University of Maine. He earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of California, Davis, along with an M.A. in Economics from the University of Washington and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Rochester.
His research focuses on the economics of energy, light-duty transportation, greenhouse gas emissions, and alternative fuels. Key areas include analyzing the environmental impacts of connected autonomous vehicles, low-carbon transportation fuels, and biofuel pathways. He is actively involved in policy advisory roles, serving on the Energy Committee of the US Transportation Research Board of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, and the Science and Technical Subcommittee of the Maine Climate Council.
Rubin has been recognized with the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Environment and Economy (2021-22) through the Institute of the Environment at the University of Ottawa. His work bridges environmental and economic policy, emphasizing sustainable transportation solutions.
