Jonathan Rosenbloom is a Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Online Education at Albany Law School. He also directs the Albany Law School and University of Parma Study Abroad Program. His academic focus spans Climate Change Law, Environmental Law, Land Use, Property Law, and Sustainability and Resilience. Rosenbloom holds a B.Arch. from Rhode Island School of Design, J.D. from New York Law School, and LLM from Harvard Law School.
His research interests include sustainable development, land use equity, and racial justice in urban planning. He authored multiple books including Building Food Security and Sovereignty (2023) and Remarkable Cities and the Fight Against Climate Change (2020), and co-authored influential texts like Land Use and Sustainable Development Law (2017). His scholarship is cited in over 150 federal court opinions and ranked among the top 175 scholars on HeinOnline.
Rosenbloom founded the Sustainable Development Code, a model land-use framework for local governments. He previously served as Dwight D. Opperman Distinguished Professor at Drake Law School and Associate Dean at Vermont Law School. Awards include the Stevens Faculty Scholar of the Year (2018) and Drake Law’s Outstanding Professor (2013).
His career includes non-profit leadership in sustainability advocacy, clerkship for Judge Rosemary Barkett on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and legal work at Reed Smith LLP. He advises on resilience strategies and has lectured globally on environmental policy and land-use reform.
