Dr. Jonathan Posner is the J. P. Gibbons Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He holds additional appointments as Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience in Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, ADHD, depression, and the impact of prenatal exposures on brain development.
Education: MD from State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center (2001). Completed residencies in Psychiatry (Columbia University, 2004-2007) and fellowships in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (Oregon Health & Science University, 2007-2009).
Research Interests: Dr. Posner investigates brain structure/function relationships in psychiatric disorders, neurodevelopmental effects of prenatal exposures (e.g., antidepressants, cannabis), and mechanisms of mental health interventions. Key areas include ADHD neuroimaging, maternal mental health impacts, and translational psychiatry.
Grant Highlights: Active NIH-funded projects explore circadian rhythms in ADHD, substance use education, and prenatal cannabis effects. Notable grants include a $5M Duke-NCCU interdisciplinary training program and studies on maternal obesity's neurodevelopmental consequences.
