Jonathan Oliveira

Jonathan Oliveira is an Assistant Professor at the Hart School of Hospitality, Sport & Recreation Management, James Madison University (JMU), affiliated with the College of Business. He is a Ph.D. Candidate in Recreation, Sport and Tourism at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (expected 2024). His expertise spans Facility Operations, Sport Management, Sport Events, and Sport Tourism. He holds an M.Sc. (2021) and B.Sc. (2017) in Physical Education from the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil.

His research focuses on football tourism, sport as a tourist attraction, and mega-event impacts. Notable works include analyses of the Camp Nou Experience, UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 media coverage, and bibliometric studies on sport tourism literature. He has consulted for Joinville Esporte Clube and served as a Stadium Analyst for the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.
