Dr Jonathan Norman is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Leeds' School of Earth and Environment, affiliated with the Sustainability Research Institute (SRI). He joined in 2018 after completing his PhD in Industrial Energy Use at the University of Bath. His work focuses on energy demand reduction and emissions accounting across industrial supply chains, combining mechanical engineering expertise with interdisciplinary methods.
Education:
- PhD, Industrial energy use and improvement potential, University of Bath
- MEng, Mechanical Engineering, University of Bath
Research Interests:
- Quantitative analysis of industrial supply chains
- Resource efficiency strategies
- Circular economy frameworks
- Climate change mitigation through industrial decarbonisation
He advises UK government departments, the Climate Change Committee, and consultancies on industrial decarbonisation and emissions accounting. As an Associate Editor for Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineering - Energy, he contributes to academic discourse. His research is funded by the Energy Demand Research Centre (EDRC) and previously by the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions (CREDS), where he led analysis in the Positive Low Energy Futures project.
Dr Norman supervises PhD students and teaches climate change mitigation topics. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to advance low-carbon futures, integrating engineering, policy, and systems analysis.
