Dr. Jonathan Martin is a Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida. As a geochemist, he specializes in hydrologic systems with a focus on surface water-groundwater interactions, biogeochemical reactions, and mineral-water-gas compositions across diverse environments ranging from deep ocean to upland watersheds.
His education includes a Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego (1993).
Martin's research explores carbonate mineral dissolution, redox conditions, and greenhouse gas cycling in karst aquifers; submarine groundwater discharge impacts on estuarine water quality; saltwater intrusion from sea-level rise; and landscape evolution during glacial retreat. His work spans geochemical, hydrological, and climate interactions in vulnerable ecosystems.
Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on climate change impacts, particularly on glacial and coastal systems. Articles frequently investigate carbon cycling transformations, nutrient limitations in aquatic systems, methane dynamics, and weathering processes in deglaciating landscapes.
No information about scientific awards, grants, labs, or student advising was provided in the source material.
