Dr Jonathan Lean is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in Strategic Management at Plymouth Business School, part of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business at the University of Plymouth. He leads the BSc (Hons) International Management & Business programme and has extensive experience supervising over 30 PhD/DBA students. His research focuses on strategic management, simulation-based learning, entrepreneurial development, and the interplay between education and employability.
Research interests include business simulation gaming for managerial training, socio-cultural influences on consumer behavior, and policy analysis for innovation ecosystems. He explores how gamification and e-learning tools enhance skill development, particularly in post-pandemic contexts. Dr Lean also investigates financing preferences of SMEs, microfinance mechanisms, and the role of organizational vision in fostering innovation.
His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing practical applications in education and policy. Notable contributions include studies on student employability, cross-cultural entrepreneurship in Africa, and the impact of serious games on entrepreneurial intent. Dr Lean’s research spans diverse sectors such as food supply chains, hospitality, and social enterprises, with a focus on policy implications for regional development and sustainable competitive advantage.
