Jonathan Kornfeld

Jonathan Kornfeld is a Lecturer in the Department of Music Theory at the School of Music, San Francisco State University. He holds an M.A. in Music Composition from SFSU, where he studied with Ronald Caltabiano, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, and Richard Festinger. He also studied composition at the 2001 Aspen Music Festival with Michael Czajkowski, and jazz/classical piano with Adam Domash.

His research and teaching focus on music theory and notation, as evidenced by his authored book "Music Theory and Notation for Intelligent Beginners." He actively performs in the jazz/funk group Hop Sauce, blending his theoretical expertise with practical musical performance.

Office hours are held Monday and Wednesday 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., available in-person or via Zoom. He is located in Creative Arts Building Room 166F.
