Jonathan Jones

Jonathan Jones is a Professor and Senior Group Lead at The Sainsbury Laboratory, part of the University of East Anglia. His research focuses on plant immunity, pathogen resistance, and genetic mechanisms of disease defense in crops. Current projects include cloning resistances against potato cyst nematodes, enhancing potato quality through genetic improvements, and analyzing Solanum americanum diversity for disease resistance sources. He leads a team investigating immune receptor diversity in rice landraces and collaborates with organizations like PepsiCo and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

Key research interests span plant-pathogen interactions, genetic engineering for crop resilience, and molecular mechanisms of immune signaling. His work integrates genomics, biochemistry, and field studies to develop sustainable agricultural solutions.
