Jonathan Gleadle is Professor of Medicine at Flinders University and Consultant Nephrologist at Flinders Medical Centre. Previously, he served as University Lecturer in Nephrology and General Medicine at Oxford University for five years. He currently heads an independent Research Group at Flinders focusing on oxygen-regulated gene expression and microRNAs with implications for renal disease and cancer.
His qualifications include:
- BM BCh from Oxford University
- MA from Oxford University
- DPhil from Oxford University
- FRCP(UK) - Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK)
- FRACP - Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
Professor Gleadle's research centers on cellular oxygen sensing mechanisms, which has broad relevance to cellular physiology, ischemic diseases, and cancer. His work specifically examines how oxygen regulates gene expression and microRNAs in the context of renal pathologies. He has made significant contributions to medical education through authoring 'History and Examination at a Glance,' renal chapters in 'Medicine at a Glance,' and 'Preparation for the FRACP; Questions and Answers.'
He is recognized as a media expert on:
- Cancer
- Kidney disease
- Responses to hypoxia
Professor Gleadle maintains an active clinical practice while continuing his research and teaching responsibilities in renal medicine and clinical examination techniques at Flinders University.
