Jonathan Evans is a Reader in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath. He is affiliated with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics (SAMBa), the Institute for Mathematical Innovation (IMI), and the Centre for Nonlinear Mechanics. His research focuses on Asymptotic Analysis, Perturbation Methods, and Industrial/Applied Mathematical Modelling, with applications to complex fluids, high-order nonlinear PDEs, and free boundary problems in engineering and finance. Notable projects include the GCRF-funded initiative for rural water treatment using 3D printing and mathematical modeling (2016-2017).
His research interests span complex fluids with memory (e.g., polymer and food industries), Cahn-Hilliard and thin film equations (fourth/sixth/tenth order), and free boundary applications in semiconductor fabrication and financial derivatives pricing. Recent publications address boundary layer dynamics in viscoelastic fluids and numerical scheme validation for non-Newtonian models.
Dr. Evans has secured research funding from the EPSRC and The Royal Society, focusing on complex fluids asymptotics and international conferences. His work contributes to UN SDG goals through innovations in sustainable engineering solutions.
