Jonathan Clarke is a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellow at the EPSRC Centre for Mathematics of Precision Healthcare, Imperial College London, within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He holds an Honorary Senior Research Fellow position in the Department of Mathematics. His work focuses on healthcare systems as complex networks, applying data science and network analysis to improve healthcare delivery and address inequalities. He is affiliated with multiple institutions, including the Institute of Global Health Innovation, the Francois Xavier Bagnoud Centre for Health and Human Rights, and Médecins du Monde.
Clarke graduated from the University of Cambridge with a background in Anthropology and Clinical Medicine. He trained as a general surgeon, completing an Academic Clinical Fellowship at Imperial College London and a Masters in Public Health at Harvard University as a Kennedy Scholar. His doctoral thesis explored healthcare networks using network analysis and machine learning, supervised by Professors Mauricio Barahona and Ara Darzi.
His research interests include global health equity, electronic health record interoperability, and the societal impacts of healthcare systems. He has advised organizations like the Institute for the Future of Work and the Helix Centre for Design in Healthcare. Recent work addresses Long COVID disparities, AI in healthcare, and the environmental impact of large language models in medicine.
Clarke has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Kennedy Scholarship and Sir Henry Wellcome Fellowship. His publications span topics from multimorbidity clusters to NHS mergers, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to healthcare challenges.
