Jonathan Burroughs

Dr. Jonathan Burroughs is an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in Theology & Religious Studies at Mary Immaculate College (MIC), Limerick. He holds a BA (Theology), MA (Theology), and PhD from Maynooth University. His research focuses on biblical interpretation, particularly in the Gospel of Matthew, exploring themes like the Holy Spirit, Christology, and narrative portrayal of biblical figures. He has contributed to international journals such as Doctrine and Life, Proceedings of the Irish Biblical Association, and Scripture in Church.

Dr. Burroughs’ work examines historical and theological perspectives of key biblical texts, including studies on Martin Luther’s Lectures on Genesis, Augustine’s interpretation of Genesis, and Aquinas’ fourfold exegesis. He has also presented at conferences like the European Society of Catholic Theology and engaged in outreach on topics like climate change through religious education. He serves as the editor of Maynooth Theological Journal (2010–2013) and actively participates in MIC’s research institutes, contributing to interdisciplinary dialogue in theology and education.
