معرفی
Dr. Jonathan Bevan is a Reader in Mathematics at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the School of Mathematics and Physics. His career includes roles such as RCUK Academic Fellow (2005–2010), Lecturer (2010–2016), and Senior Lecturer (2016–2019) at Surrey. He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. Anne's College, Oxford (1995–1999) and his PhD under Prof. J. Ball at Oxford (1999–2003). He has held postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences and at Balliol College, Oxford.
His research focuses on calculus of variations, nonlinear elasticity, and regularity theory, with particular emphasis on polyconvex functions, functional inequalities (e.g., Poincaré), and the analysis of energy minimizers. His work often explores the interplay between convexity properties and material behavior, such as cavitation, cavitating maps, and incompressible flows.
Notable contributions include studies on Hadamard’s inequality in the mean, uniqueness criteria in variational problems, and the mathematical modeling of physical systems such as the Wirtz pump. His publications span journals like Nonlinear Analysis, Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, and SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis.
