Jonathan Bennett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan, within the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. His research focuses on plant-soil interactions, mycorrhizal symbiosis, and invasive species ecology. He holds a BSc from St. Francis Xavier University, an MSc from the University of Windsor, and a PhD from the University of Alberta.
Education:
- BSc – St. Francis Xavier University
- MSc – University of Windsor
- PhD – University of Alberta
Research Interests:
- Ecology and management of invasive species
- Plant-soil feedback mechanisms
- Mycorrhizal interactions and ecosystem functioning
- Plant diversity and community assembly processes
Recent Research Trends: His publications highlight advancements in understanding plant-soil feedbacks under varying environmental conditions, the role of mycorrhizas in community stability, and the impact of disturbances on grassland productivity. Recent studies explore global patterns of vegetation impoverishment and dark diversity dynamics.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Bennett Ecology Lab, focusing on plant-plant and plant-soil interactions, with applied projects on invasive species management and mycorrhizal ecology. The lab emphasizes rigorous field and experimental approaches.
