Jonathan Awaya

Jonathan “Jon” Awaya is a Professor of Biology and Student Support Coordinator in the Biology Department at the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS). He holds a Ph.D. and specializes in research on elemental cycling and secondary metabolite biosynthesis in environmental microbes. His teaching includes courses such as Fundamentals of Microbiology, Biology of Microorganisms, and Intro to Cell & Molecular Biology.

Research interests focus on microbial environmental interactions, particularly in tropical ecosystems. He is affiliated with the Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science (TCBES) program within CNHS.
