Jonas Müller-Ahlheim is a German artist, curator, and Lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). His practice spans art studios, public spaces, and scientific laboratories. He co-founded curatorial collectives 'sspatz' and 'by bye,' focusing on painting, video, and installation. Müller-Ahlheim holds an MFA from SAIC (2023) and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, and the Art Academy Karlsruhe under Professor Leni Hoffmann.
Research Interests: Explores the intersection of drawing and performance through embodied gestures, scores, and documentation methods. Investigates visibility and invisibility in performance, using public space as a canvas. Key influences include Francis Alÿs, Lygia Pape, and the Gutai Group.
Teaching: Currently teaches 'Expanded Line Performance 3039' and 'Expanded Line Painting and Drawing 3039' at SAIC, emphasizing drawing as a performative medium and collaborative practice. Students engage with texts by Erika Fischer-Lichte and Donna Haraway, culminating in public exhibitions like the No Nation show.
