Jonas Granfeldt is a Professor of French Linguistics at Lund University's Centre for Languages and Literature, where he serves as Manager of Research and Research Education for French Studies. He is co-Principal Investigator of the TEAM (Transdisciplinary Approaches to Learning, Acquisition, Multilingualism) research program and leader of the LAMiNATE (Language Acquisition, Multilingualism, and Teaching) research platform. His academic career spans over two decades with significant contributions to applied linguistics and language education.
Professor Granfeldt's research primarily focuses on applied French linguistics with special emphasis on second language acquisition, language learning motivation, and foreign language teaching methodologies. His work examines how learners engage with language in different contexts, including study abroad programs and migration settings. He has pioneered research on language exposure measurement through innovative methods like the LANG-TRACK-APP, which uses smartphone technology to document real-world language use. His current projects address critical challenges in language education, particularly the 'language crisis' affecting modern language learning in Swedish schools.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on motivation in language learning, methodological innovation in tracking language exposure, and theoretical development in second language acquisition. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with practical educational applications, often employing interdisciplinary approaches that combine cognitive science, sociolinguistics, and educational psychology. Granfeldt's research increasingly addresses gender-inclusive language forms and their processing, reflecting contemporary linguistic policy developments.

He has served on numerous review panels, including for the Swedish Research Council, and has been actively involved in shaping language education policy through various national and international committees.
Granfeldt leads the LAMiNATE research platform, which brings together researchers from multiple disciplines to investigate language acquisition across different contexts. He is also central to the TEAM research program, a major transdisciplinary initiative examining learning, acquisition, and multilingualism from 2024-2029. His work frequently involves international collaboration, with research connections across Europe and beyond, reflecting the global nature of language acquisition studies.
