Jonas Boergel

Dr. Jonas Boergel is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at New York University, joining in January 2025. His research focuses on sustainable synthetic methodologies at the interface of molecular and porous materials chemistry, particularly exploring porous materials in solid-gas reactions and spectroscopic characterization of reactive species. He holds a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Münster, a Ph.D. from the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, and completed postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley under Prof. Jeffrey R. Long.

Key research areas include developing novel catalytic systems for C-H functionalization, oxygen activation in metal-organic frameworks, and advancing sustainable chemical synthesis. His work bridges molecular chemistry with materials science, addressing environmental and industrial challenges.

Selected awards include the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020), Reaxys Ph.D. Prize Finalist (2019), and Kekulé Scholarship (2015). His publications highlight contributions to catalysis, materials design, and mechanistic studies of reactive intermediates.
