Jona Hebbrecht

Jona Hebbrecht is a teacher trainer and researcher at Odisee, based at the Brussels campus (Warmoesberg 26, 1000 Brussels). She serves as an internship supervisor and language instructor in the Primary Education bachelor's program with a focus on Dutch didactics. She is a member of the Primary Education Team and Education Research Group, serves as Language Policy Lead for the Education cluster, and is a core member of the #OdiseeLeest team.

Her research centers on advancing reading education through practical tools and professional development. She developed "The Reading Scan," a digital instrument to help schools establish robust reading policies, and co-creates the "IedereenAloud Reading" hybrid program for interactive reading aloud. Her work emphasizes evidence-based language instruction, teacher training, and accessibility for low-literate learners, reflected in her continuing education courses on reading, language, and reception pedagogy.

As an educational author, Hebbrecht co-created language textbooks for first-grade and primary education, drove development of the "Overhaald" literature handbook for low-literate children, and contributed to Wablieft's "Rich Texts" project materials. She authored "Turning pupils into readers" and co-authored "Volop Taal, Dutch Didactics for Primary School," demonstrating her commitment to translating research into classroom resources while leading institutional language policy initiatives.
