Jon Wiebel is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Communication, Media, & Performance at Allegheny College. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), and a B.A. in Political Science from Baylor University.

Wiebel’s research focuses on rhetoric, political communication, and critical theory, particularly examining U.S. immigration policy and the rhetorical deployment of hospitality in shaping policy at the U.S.-Mexico border. His teaching includes courses like Foundations of Rhetoric and Public Communication, Power and Politics in Communication, and advanced public speaking. As Director of Speaking, he oversees peer speaking consultant hiring and mentoring.
Office hours: Monday 1:30-3:30 PM, Tuesday 10:00 AM-12:00 PM, Wednesday 1:30-3:30 PM, Friday 9:00-10:00 AM and 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (by appointment).
