Jon Stingel is a PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University within the School of Engineering. His research focuses on computational biomechanics, particularly the metabolic energy cost of motion at the muscle level and the design of assistive devices to improve human mobility.
His recent work involves automating musculoskeletal modeling and motion analysis using optimization algorithms, as well as exploring passive devices like exotendons and leg-connected springs to enhance running economy. He also contributes to pediatric medical device fabrication and sensor development for soft systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Paul Berg Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Fellow, Bio-X SIGF, 2020
- National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, 2017
Jon earned his M.S. (2019) and B.S. (2017) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and the University of Mount Union, respectively. He is affiliated with the Clark Center at Stanford, a hub for interdisciplinary biomedical research.
