Jon Piqueras is an Assistant Professor of Economics at Charles III University of Madrid, previously serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Bocconi University. He holds a PhD in Economics from University College London and maintains affiliations with the Institute for Fiscal Studies, RFBerlin, and the Stone Centre at UCL.
His research centers on Labor and Public Economics, with specific expertise in unemployment insurance design across business cycles, asymmetric minimum wage effects, and search effort responses to wage policies. Methodologically, he combines administrative data analysis, regression discontinuity designs, natural experiments, and machine learning techniques applied to large-scale surveys.
Dr. Piqueras' scholarly contributions have been recognized through the Young Economist Prize 2023 awarded by the European Association of Labour Economists and selection for the EALE Tour 2024. His work demonstrates how labor policies can generate persistent wage effects and reveals nuanced welfare implications of minimum wage adjustments.
He actively collaborates with leading economists including Arindrajit Dube, Attila Lindner, and Emiliano Huet-Vaughn on projects examining heterogeneous minimum wage impacts and comparative welfare systems. Current work in progress explores public work programs versus unemployment insurance using Hungarian administrative data.
