Jon Bishop

Dr. Jon Bishop serves as Senior Medical Statistician & Statistics Deputy Team Leader at the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU), University of Birmingham. With over 60 research outputs and involvement in multiple significant projects, he plays a key role in designing and analyzing clinical trials across various medical specialties.

Dr. Bishop specializes in clinical trial methodology with particular expertise in pilot and feasibility studies, cluster-randomised trials, and observational studies. His research spans trauma, maternal health, orthopaedics, and renal disease, focusing on both medical and surgical interventions. His work contributes to several UN Sustainable Development Goals through clinical research aimed at improving global health outcomes.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on statistical methodology in wound healing, neurological responses to exercise, and maternal health interventions. The research shows consistent application of advanced statistical techniques to address complex clinical questions across diverse medical fields.

Dr. Bishop serves as Co-Investigator, Researcher, or Principal Investigator on multiple active projects funded by organizations including NIHR and Stroke Association. His current projects include Golden hour for stroke [GHOST], The Medal Trial for acute low back pain, BCG vaccine research, FREMS-PDPN for diabetic neuropathy, and RePHILL for traumatic hemorrhage.

As Statistics Deputy Team Leader at BCTU, he leads statistical aspects of clinical trial design and analysis. His work with the Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre (SRMRC) has established him as a key contributor to trauma and military medicine research, with notable expertise in thermal injury and sepsis studies.
