Jomy Joseph is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Environmental Humanities at the University of Oslo. His research focuses on Speculative Industrial Design, ReFuturing Studies, and designing for long-term sustainability in the context of climate breakdown. He holds a PhD in Industrial Design from The Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO), a Master's from IIT Delhi, and a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from Calicut University, India.
His academic journey includes professional experience as an industrial, communication, and UX designer in India, followed by advanced studies in Norway. Key research themes include generative design practices, alternative futures, and rehumanizing systems through design. He explores how design can articulate transformative responses to climate crises and inequities.
Joseph’s work bridges theory and practice through design fictions, exhibitions, and fabricated artifacts. His projects, such as 'Anthropogenic Soils' and 'CoFutures', address ecological and socio-material consequences of climate change. His recent publications emphasize frameworks for ecological futures and the role of design in systemic change.
He actively participates in academic conferences and has contributed to initiatives like the 'Curriculum for Climate Agency'. His research advocates for a reimagined present to foster radically hopeful futures, challenging entrenched unsustainable practices.
