Joke Dewilde is a Professor and Research Leader at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research, University of Oslo (UiO). She currently serves as Head of Research (2023–present) and has held roles such as PhD coordinator (2021–2022) and department board representative. Her academic background includes a PhD from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at UiO, an MA in English from the Faculty of Humanities at UiO, and a BA in English, Norwegian, multicultural education, and North American studies from Hedmark University College and UiO.
Her research focuses on multilingualism in schools and society, particularly related to migration, mobility, and social justice. Key themes include multilingual literacy and identity, pedagogical practices of multilingual staff, and multicultural events as inclusive spaces. Recently, she has explored connections between multilingualism and sustainability. Methodologically, she employs linguistic ethnography and critical sociolinguistics to highlight undervalued multilingual practices.
Professor Dewilde actively disseminates knowledge through podcasts like Mi Lenga (co-created for master’s students) and UV’s Læring og en expérimentale novella. She received the 2022 Faculty Education Prize (nominated by students) and the 2023 Faculty Communication Award. Her teaching spans multilingualism and research methods at master’s and PhD levels, emphasizing student-driven innovation such as the Mi Lenga program.
She leads research projects like BiMK – Sustainability Didactics in Diverse Classrooms and Mi Lenga, and collaborates with groups including MultiLing, COSER, and the Swedish Research Council. Her work bridges academic rigor with practical impact, advocating for multilingual practices as educational resources.
