Johnson Zhang

Professor Johnson Zhang leads the School of Engineering's international initiatives at Edinburgh Napier University. His research develops sustainable structural materials including patented bamboo-timber composites.

Research focuses on engineered composites, laminate glass structures, and computational modeling of complex loading conditions. Innovations include photogrammetry techniques for material evaluation.

Recent publications address heritage structure preservation, sustainable 3D printing materials, and bamboo-timber composite columns under compression.

Honored by Royal Academy of Engineering case study feature and Industrial Fellowship. Current grants support bamboo-timber gridshell structures and international architectural education partnerships. Supervises multiple PhD candidates in structural engineering topics.
