Professor Maxwell's research examines the critical nexus between corporate environmental strategy, public policy, and non-market forces. His work investigates how businesses navigate environmental regulations, stakeholder pressures, and sustainability transitions through strategic signaling, risk management, and political engagement. This research bridges environmental economics with corporate strategy to address real-world challenges in ecological governance.
His publication record (2011-2020) reveals consistent exploration of green labeling efficacy, consumer learning dynamics, and corporate responses to regulatory threats. A dominant theme is the analysis of greenwashing mechanisms and how firms strategically disclose environmental performance under audit pressures. His work increasingly focuses on systemic sustainability transitions and the political foundations required for effective corporate environmental action.
His distinguished honors include:
- Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA)
- Research Fellowship at CCISSR, Peking University
- Senior Fellowship at ZEI, University of Bonn
