John Velez

John Velez serves as an Associate Professor at The Media School, Indiana University Bloomington. His academic work centers on media psychology with a specialization in video games and interactive media.

Professor Velez's research explores the multifaceted benefits of video games beyond entertainment, focusing on their application in solving real-world problems. His work spans education, healthcare, social movements, and workplace environments, particularly examining interpersonal dynamics, mental well-being, and learning outcomes.

He directs the Mindless Electron Lab (MEL), which engages undergraduate and graduate students in collaborative research projects. The lab structure involves one major group project per semester alongside individual student project support, fostering a dynamic environment for innovation in interactive media through stimulus testing, brainstorming, troubleshooting, and data collection assistance.
