John Varcoe

Professor John Varcoe is a Materials Chemistry Professor at the University of Surrey within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He serves as Associate Head of School for Research and Innovation and directs the EPSRC-funded SE-regional Raman Microscopy Facility. His research focuses on anion-exchange membranes for electrochemical energy systems, including fuel cells, CO2 electrolysers, and redox flow batteries.

• Education: BSc (1995) and PhD (2000) in Chemistry from University of Exeter; Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (2008) from Surrey.
• Awards: EPSRC Leadership Fellowship (2010), Faculty Researcher of the Year (2010), multiple university prizes.

His recent publications highlight advancements in radiation-grafted membranes, CO2 electrolysis optimization, and water management in alkaline systems.
