John Turner is a Professor of Finance and Financial History at Queen’s University Belfast since 2005. He holds leadership roles including Director of the Queen’s University Centre for Economic History and the Long Run Institute. His research focuses on banking crises, financial bubbles, and long-term financial market evolution. Notable works include Banking in Crisis (2014) and Boom and Bust (2020), the latter recognized as a Financial Times Best Economics Book. Academic honors include the Wadsworth Prize and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Turner has held visiting roles at institutions like Harvard Business School and the London School of Economics.
His research interests span economic history, law and finance, and banking systems. Key projects include studies on the UK stock market’s evolution and historical corporate ownership. He advises on policy via the Northern Ireland Productivity Forum and contributes to journals like the Economic History Review. His work addresses sustainable development goals related to economic stability and financial resilience.
