John Trant is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Science. He specializes in biomedical chemistry, cancer therapeutics, and drug delivery systems. His work focuses on designing nanomedicines, developing diagnostic tools for prostate cancer, and creating antimicrobial materials. He leads the Agri-Food and Beverage Lab and collaborates with industry partners like Wolfhead Distillery to produce medical-grade hand sanitizers during public health crises.
- Recipient of the 2019 Thieme Chemistry Journal Award
- Holders of grants from NSERC, Arthritis Society, and Ontario Institute for Cancer Research
- Mentor to over 15 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers
Research interests include:
- Peptide-based drug discovery
- Targeted cancer therapies
- Self-immolative polymers for medical devices
- Chemical safety in academic labs
Recent work explores cannabinoid nanoformulations, AI-driven taste receptor modeling, and novel carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. His lab develops diagnostic tools like fluorescent probes for prostate cancer detection and antimicrobial coatings to combat hospital infections.
