John Sotham serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Lee Caplin School of Communication and Journalism at Florida International University (FIU) and holds the role of Associate Director within FIU’s Career and Talent Development office. With a 30-year military career in the U.S. Air Force, he specialized in aircraft maintenance, security forces, and manpower operations. Notable assignments include command roles in Afghanistan, political-military coordination at U.S. Southern Command during the 2010 Haiti earthquake response, and instructor roles at Air Command and Staff College. Additionally, he contributed to Air & Space Smithsonian as a researcher, editor, and international journalist, covering aerospace milestones such as the first International Space Station crew launch and aviation history in Europe.
His professional expertise spans military leadership, international aviation, and media communications. Prior to retirement, he held key roles in joint force planning and interagency coordination, reflecting his dual focus on strategic defense and cross-cultural collaboration.
