John Sellinger is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine and Director of Clinical Health Psychology at VA Connecticut Healthcare System. His roles include Co-Director of Training for the Clinical Health Psychology Postdoctoral Residency. He holds a PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi (2006) and a BA from Marist College (1998), with postdoctoral training at VA Connecticut Healthcare System.
His research focuses on chronic pain management, substance use disorders, and implementation science in veterans' healthcare. Key areas include evaluating pain treatment modalities among populations with substance misuse, pandemic impacts on clinical trials, and transitioning veterans' pain management strategies. He has published extensively in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, Pain Medicine, and American Journal on Addictions.
Recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Psychologist in Education Award for contributions to psychology training programs. His work bridges clinical practice, education, and translational research to improve veteran healthcare outcomes.
