Dr. John Sellars is a Research Project Officer overseeing the Ancient Commentators on Aristotle project at King's College London (part-time since 2012). He holds a Lectureship in Philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London (2017–present) and previously at Birkbeck (2012–2014). His work focuses on Hellenistic and Roman Stoicism, the Renaissance reception of Stoic thought, and metaphilosophy. Sellars earned his PhD at the University of Warwick and has contributed editorially to King’s (2014–2017).
Research interests include the history of philosophy, particularly Stoicism’s evolution and its intersections with ethics, practical philosophy, and intellectual history. He has engaged in public discussions on Stoicism’s influence, such as podcasts with Peter Adamson and Julian Baggini.
Publications cited include *The Art of Living: The Stoics on the Nature and Function of Philosophy* (2003) and *Stoicism* (2006). His work emphasizes practical philosophy’s role in shaping ethical and intellectual life.
