Dr. J.L. (John) Schellenberg is a Professor in the Religious Studies department at Mount Saint Vincent University. He holds advanced degrees including a BA (Hon.) and MA from the University of Calgary, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford. Dr. Schellenberg’s research spans metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics in the philosophy of religion. He is especially known for his work on religious skepticism, divine hiddenness, and the cultural implications of evolutionary theory for religious belief. His seminal trilogy from 2005–2009 and later works like Evolutionary Religion (2013) and Religion After Science (2019) have shaped contemporary debates in the field.
His publications include over 60 peer-reviewed papers and edited volumes such as Renewing Philosophy of Religion (2017). Key themes in his work include the problem of divine hiddenness, moral evolution, and the interplay between science and religion.
