John R. Williams is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT. His research focuses on computational methods, cyber/physical security, web-based education technology, and large-scale network simulation. He holds a BA in Physics from Oxford University (1971), an MS in Physics from UCLA (1973), and a PhD in Numerical Methods from Swansea University (1977).

- GeoNumerics of granular systems
Awards:
- Best Overall Paper at SpringSim ’11
- Best Paper in HPC Symposium at SpringSim ’11
His work bridges computational science and engineering applications, including smart grid analytics, oil reservoir characterization, and high-performance computing resilience strategies. He leads MIT's Geospatial Lab and collaborates on projects involving scalable memory architectures for cyber-physical systems.
