معرفی
John R. C. Hsu is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering within the School of Engineering at The University of Western Australia. His academic work centers on coastal and ocean engineering, with expertise in wave dynamics, sediment transport, and morphodynamic modeling processes critical to shoreline management.
His research spans coastal engineering, fluid dynamics, and environmental fluid mechanics, with specific contributions to solitary wave analysis, pycnocline effects, numerical modeling of Navier-Stokes equations, and wave energy applications. He integrates laboratory experiments with field observations to develop practical geomorphic approaches for embayed beaches and breakwater systems, addressing United Nations Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable coastal communities and climate resilience.
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate his focus on empirical and computational methods for coastal management, including software development (MeePaSoL), static equilibrium concepts for headland-bay beaches, and analytical frameworks for tombolo evolution behind detached breakwaters. His work consistently bridges theoretical fluid dynamics with real-world shoreline protection challenges.
Dr. Hsu secured three Australian Research Council Small Grants between 1996-1998 investigating wave-induced sediment resuspension, density stratification effects on surface gravity waves, and soil liquefaction in porous seabeds. These foundational projects established methodologies for his continued research in coastal hydrodynamics and sediment transport mechanisms.
