John P. Preskill

John P. Preskill is the Richard P. Feynman Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), holding the Allen V. C. Davis and Lenabelle Davis Leadership Chair at the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology. He has been a faculty member since 1983, progressing through ranks such as Associate Professor (1983–1990), MacArthur Professor (2002–2009), and Feynman Professor (2010–present). His leadership roles include Director of the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (2014–present) and Director of the Center for the Physics of Information (2003–2011).

Education: A.B. in Physics from Princeton University (1975), A.M. (1976), and Ph.D. (1980) from Harvard University. He was a Junior Fellow at Harvard Society of Fellows (1980–1981) before joining Caltech.
