John P. Crimaldi is a Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, affiliated with the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. He leads the Ecological Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, focusing on fluid physics interactions with ecological and biological systems. His research explores turbulent mixing, odor transport, and organism-environment adaptations in aquatic and atmospheric flows.
Education:
- B.S.E. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University (1987)
- M.S. in Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology, Stanford University (1992)
- Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University (1998)
Research interests include physical-biological interactions, benthic boundary layer processes, and fluid dynamics applications in ecology. His work combines experimental and numerical methods to study chemical and biological transport in complex flows.
Professional affiliations: American Society for Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), American Geophysical Union (AGU).
Notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award and multiple teaching distinctions. He has held leadership roles such as Dean's Faculty Fellow and has been recognized for mentorship and professional contributions.
