John Nix is a Professor of Voice and Voice Pedagogy at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), where he has taught since 2005 and chairs the voice area. Mentored by Barbara Doscher and Ingo Titze, his work bridges vocal performance, pedagogy, and scientific research.

His research focuses on science-informed voice pedagogy, including voice acoustics, motor learning, and vocal physiology. Recent work examines respiratory kinematics, vocal fry perception, and post-COVID-19 vocal concerns. He co-chairs the NATS Voice Science Advisory Committee and serves on editorial boards for The Journal of Singing and Oxford University Press.
John has published 50+ articles and book chapters, with grants from the Grammy Foundation, NIH, and San Antonio Area Foundation. He directs the NATS Pedagogy Intensive and teaches at the NCVS Summer Vocology Institute. His teaching philosophy emphasizes problem-solving, vocal health, and individualized instruction.
