John N Chapman is a Professor and Head of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Glasgow. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 1973 and held a Research Fellowship at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, before joining the University of Glasgow.

His research focuses on understanding the relationship between material nanostructure and physical properties, with emphasis on magnetic nanostructures and multilayer films. He extensively employs electron microscopy and analytical techniques, authoring around 275 papers on these topics.
