Dr. John Morelock is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Engineering Education and Associate Director of Educational Innovation and Impact at the University of Georgia's Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI). His work focuses on institutional change through faculty development, student motivation, and graduate student development.
He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Education from Virginia Tech, supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His doctoral research examined teaching practices during game-based learning activities and their impact on student motivation.
Research interests include innovative teaching networks in engineering departments, faculty development programming, and evaluating learning environments. His recent work addresses online learning during the pandemic, international bilingual engineering courses, and peer observation processes.
Key awards include the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. His research outputs span 15+ peer-reviewed articles since 2015, emphasizing educational innovation and institutional transformation in engineering education.
As EETI's Associate Director, he coordinates faculty development initiatives and leads projects like the ProQual Institute, fostering long-term engagement in educational research among STEM faculty. His work bridges theory and practice through ecological design approaches to cultivate scholarly teaching cultures.
